Dr Sophie Hopker Veterinarian

Sophie Hopker

Sophie graduated from the University of Bristol Veterinary School in 2007. She started her career working in rural India, following her passion for helping those animals most in need. Sophie has returned to India regularly ever since, travelling to remote areas to provide veterinary care for injured and sick animals, and sustainable education for animal keepers. In the UK she has worked in a variety of settings from small rural practices to large referral centres and a cat only clinic! Sophie’s favourite job has been working for a wonderful shelter specialising in rehoming breeding dogs rescued from puppy farms. After moving to Scotland eight years ago Sophie continued to work in small animal practice as well as at the University of Edinburgh, teaching final year students in clinical skills. Sophie recently completed the foundation course in Veterinary Acupuncture and is working towards a certificate in Integrative Care in Veterinary Practice, focussing on the management of chronic pain. She strives to help all of her patients stay happy and healthy by advising on practical and affordable veterinary care, ideally while getting a cuddle! She is also a qualified yoga teacher and loves to spend time in wild places with her husband (who is also a vet), two lovely children and beloved ancient spaniel, Inky. Sophie joined FirstVet in September 2021.
