How Our Video Calls Work

Before your appointment starts, your FirstVet vet will review the information and any photos you submitted. Open the app at your scheduled start time. When your vet calls you through the app, click “Start video call”. Rest assured that your consult and personal information are encrypted and secure.

Make sure to have your pet close by during the video call. Your vet will want to say ‘hello’ and make a more thorough assessment if necessary.

Advice, Treatment Recommendations, or Referral

Following your video call, you’ll receive a copy of your vet’s notes and recommendations. Your pet’s medical record will be saved for future reference. If your pet is referred to a local veterinary clinic or emergency hospital, we’re happy to send them an email copy of your pet’s records if needed.

About Our Veterinarians

All FirstVet veterinarians are licensed to practice in the US and have a minimum of five years of clinical experience. We perform ongoing training with our vets to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Cancelling Your Consultation

You can cancel your video call up to 60 minutes before the time of your appointment. You can do this yourself by selecting your appointment in the "My Appointments" tab of the FirstVet app. You can also contact us at support-us@firstvet.com if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Does FirstVet prescribe medications?

FirstVet does not prescribe any medications. Fortunately, the majority of simple cases can be solved without prescription medications. If your FirstVet vet determines that your pet might need a prescription, you’ll be referred to your local veterinarian or emergency hospital. We’ll provide your regular vet with a full medical record from the video consult, including a suggested treatment approach, if appropriate. Our goal is to provide your pet with the best possible care and minimize the use of prescription medications when possible.

Deleting Your Account

To delete your FirstVet account, please contact us via email at support-us@firstvet.com. Please note that some data related to any of your previous FirstVet consults may be retained in accordance with our privacy policy. Our privacy policy is available at firstvet.com/us/privacy-policy.
