FirstVet started in 2016 in Sweden and has since launched across Scandinavia and the UK, as well as in Germany and the USA. FirstVet launched its UK online veterinary service in April 2019. We have been growing ever since and have helped more than 500,000 pets.
Our video vet service is staffed by experienced UK-registered veterinarians, who provide triage and advice, and if necessary, refer the owner and their pet to a physical veterinary clinic. Our service runs 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so whether you are at home, at the park, or hiking in the mountains, our vets are here for you and your pet.
FirstVet is completely independent of other veterinary practices and companies. Our advice and guidance are based solely on the needs of your particular animal. If you have a dog, cat, rabbit, bird, rodent or fish, you can get help from FirstVet.
When we recommend that a pet goes to the clinic, we always recommend that they go to their registered practice in the first instance. We work with all veterinary practices and animal hospitals across the UK, including emergency vet clinics out of hours. If necessary, we can direct owners to their nearest local vet clinic using the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons ‘Find a vet’ tool.
After their consultation, owners receive a written summary of the consultation. If a pet needs to visit the vet, the animal's information is emailed to the clinic ahead of the visit.
Our partnerships with twelve British pet insurance companies enable owners, who have a pet insured with one of our partners, to use FirstVet free through their policy.
FirstVet provides you with professional advice, tailored to your pet, as an alternative to ‘Dr Google’. Before a possible visit to a veterinary clinic, you can get advice on how to treat a problem at home or get an independent referral to a veterinary clinic if further investigation or treatment are needed.
