Ask the vet - Dog

Why does my dog bring up undigested food?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Several conditions can result in a dog bringing up undigested food. Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), oesophageal abnormalities, food sensitivity and plain over-eating (under a short period of time) are a few examples.

If vomiting is infrequent and occurs just after eating it is likely due to the dog eating too quickly. Try throwing food out on a tray or using a specially designed food bowl (labyrinth/maze bowl) to see if this slows down eating and in turn stops the vomiting. If, on the other hand, the dog vomits frequently, loses weight, seems depressed or is not itself in any other way, it is best to book an appointment with a vet for an examination.
