How can I treat my constipated dog?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

If your dog seems well, has a normal appetite and is its normal self, you can often wait 2-3 days before seeking veterinary care. If your dog sits and struggles to defecate without success, is vomiting, depressed, inappetent or seems to have a stomach-ache it is best to seek a vet straight away. If you are unsure whether your dog needs to see a vet it is best to book an appointment since the best treatment differs from case to case and depends on various factors.

If your dog is constipated but well and able to defecate, the best thing to do is to feed it easily digestible food. Feed small portions of either ready-made special diets (only found at a veterinary clinic) or cooked white fish/chicken fillet and rice. The portions should be small (half a handful) and given several times a day. Exercise also helps alleviate constipation.
