Ask the vet - Dog

What should I do if a dog has eaten a chicken bone?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Cooked chicken bones can have very sharp ends when chewed which risk puncturing the mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach and intestines. If your dog has accidentally eaten cooked bones the best thing to do is feed it canned asparagus which can “wrap around” the sharp ends and hopefully prevent causing injury. :

Raw chicken bones are not as dangerous if eaten, but can still result in puncture wounds if unlucky.

Most veterinarians discourage feeding raw chicken since it can contain bacteria that make both dogs and humans very sick (such as Salmonella, Campylobacter and ESBL).

Book an appointment with one of our vets if you have questions or feel uncertain regarding this matter.
