Ask the vet - Dog

What is an epulid?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Epulids can be big and are usually the same colour as the gums, meaty and firm in consistency. Sometimes they cover a part of, or an entire tooth, which can result in the dog accidentally biting them. Sometimes epulids sit between teeth, pushing the teeth out of their normal position.

Epulids can be difficult to differ from hyperplasia (an overgrowth) of the gums. In the latter case, the gum has grown a little too much because of an irritation from for example plaque, tartar or trauma. It is often recommended to remove any growths in the gum in order to get them analysed. Brushing your dogs teeth daily can help minimise recurring problems with gum hyperplasia.
