Ask the vet - Cat
My cat is shedding and losing a lot of fur, is something wrong?
Vet at FirstVet answers:
Most cats shed a lot, all year round. Shedding is normal as long as your cat is getting a good quality cat food, seems well in itself, does not scratch/lick itself a lot or have any bald spots.
If your cat however seems unwell, i.e. is vomiting, losing weight, licking away hair so it has bald spots, or if its coat has become dull there could be something wrong. Lots of diseases result in increased shedding and dull coat in cats. The best thing to do is to consult a veterinarian.
