Ask the vet - Cat

I think my cat has fleas. What should I do?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Cats can be infested with different flea species. The most common flea that infests cats is called Ctenocephalides felis. If you suspect your cat has fleas, the best thing to do is to catch one onto a clear strand of tape and take it to the vet who can examine it under the microscope and find out what type of fleas you are dealing with.

It can be difficult to get rid of cat fleas. You have to treat both the cat and the environment in order to eliminate them, and sometimes have to do this more than once. Contact us for further advice.
