Ask the vet - Cat

Why has my cat started to lose fur on its stomach?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

The most serious cause of fur loss on the abdomen is when the cat is licking it away on its own. This is often done at night or when the owner is not around. It is usually a symptom of urinary tract disease or stress. Allergies can also result in this behaviour, but any condition that causes distress can result in excessive abdominal licking.

A sudden or big change, such as moving, a new family member, new diet or litter can cause stress to your cat, resulting in this type of licking behaviour. Feliway ameliorates stress in cats and is recommended for all cats that are extra susceptible to stress.
