Ask the vet - Cat
My cat’s fur is thinning in some areas/has some bald spots. What can be causing this?
Vet at FirstVet answers:
Bald spots in cats are most commonly self inflicted. Cats lick, bite and chew their fur when they are itchy. The underlying skin is usually unreactive. Cats are very discrete and often only lick and chew excessively when they are alone. Pet owners therefore often believe their cat’s fur has fallen off on its own.
Different types of external parasites as well as ringworm can result in bald spots. It is best to contact a veterinarian for advice if you find bald spots on your cat.
