Ask the vet - Cat

My cat is vomiting and/or has diarrhoea. When should I seek help from a veterinarian?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

As long as your cat is alert, wants to eat and drink, and can keep fluids down you can wait with booking an appointment with a vet. Offer your cat cooked rice and cooked white fish in small portions several times daily. You can also offer probiotics that are available at pet shops and veterinary clinics.

If any of the following is applicable to your cat you should seek veterinary care immediately:

- If there is any blood present in the vomit or diarrhoea.

- If  your cat does not want to eat or drink.

- If your cat seems very tired or has a fever (rectal temperature above 39°C).

- If your cat seems to have a painful belly.

- If your cat brings up water.
