Ask the vet - Cat
Why has my cat started drooling?
Vet at FirstVet answers:
Several conditions can result in salivation in cats. The following are examples of such:
- Oral disease: such as dental pain, oral tumours, or foreign bodies stuck between the teeth.
- Nausea and gastrointestinal disease.
- Different types of toxins.
Usually examinations under sedation or anaesthesia are required to find the root of the cause of excessive salivation. If your cat’s mentation is affected and it is drooling a lot you should contact a veterinarian immediately.
