Ask the vet - Cat

What is the procedure for a cat castration?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

If both of the cat’s testicles are present in the scrotum a castration goes as follows:

  • The cat is anaesthetized and is given pain relief.
  • Fur is removed on and around the scrotum and the skin is aseptically cleansed for surgery.
  • A small incision is made over each testicle and the testicles are removed.
  • The testicular vessel and vas deferens (spermatic duct) are tied together to prevent bleeding.
  • The incisions are left to heal together on their own. No stitches are placed.
