Ask the vet - Cat
Is it true that cats can get eye problems from the herpes virus?
Vet at FirstVet answers:
Feline herpes virus is common and causes airway and eye disease, particularly in young or weak/stressed cats. The virus stays latent in the body after the initial infection. At times of stress or disease the cat can have another outbreak of herpes. In other words, it can have repeated outbreaks since herpes is never cleared from the body.
If your cat repeatedly has problems with its eyes then herpes might be the culprit. It is best to seek veterinary care. A sample can be taken from the mucus membranes of the eyes to rule out herpes and/or bacterial infections.
