Ask the vet - Rabbit

Do you need to bathe your rabbit?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

A healthy rabbit with a short coat is generally good at keeping itself clean and does not need to be bathed. Longhaired rabbits may require help with grooming, while “teddy” breeds and lionheads will need assistance with keeping their coat in good condition.

A physically active, healthy rabbit that is not overweight should not have any dried faeces or urine stuck to its coat around its bottom. If your rabbit is not caring for its coat properly you should seek veterinary care.

If you find any dried stools or urine on your rabbit you should first remove these and then brush any knots in the fur. If it is too difficult to remove the knots by brushing you can gently wash your rabbit with a mild and perfume-free shampoo (bought at a pet shop or vet clinic). Ensure your rabbit does not get any shampoo in its eyes. Wash all of the shampoo away and then thoroughly and carefully dry your rabbit.
