Why can’t rabbits and guinea pigs live together?

Rabbits carry a bacteria in their upper airways (known as Bordetella bronchiseptica) that results in fatal pneumonia in guinea pigs. Rabbits also often bully guinea pigs. Both species prefer and need company with their own species.
