Ask the vet - Rabbit

Why does my rabbit have a bald spot in its fur?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Coat changes can have various causes. The most common include parasite and fungal infections such as ringworm. Rabbits can also lick their fur off due to pain.

If you find a bald spot on your rabbit it is best to book an appointment for an examination with a veterinarian. Samples will be taken from the skin and fur to see if there are any parasites present. These samples are examined under a microscope. Fungal infections need to be cultured and are often sent away to a laboratory for diagnosis. If there are no parasites or fungal infections present further diagnostics need to be performed in order to find the underlying cause/disease process resulting in the coat change.
