Ask the vet - Rabbit

Why do rabbits dig so much?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Digging is a normal behaviour in rabbits. Sometimes, however, digging can become excessive.

A rutting doe is hormonally affected, and can start digging excessively while in heat. Spaying her will likely depress this behaviour.

Boredom can also result in excessive digging. It is then important to enrich the environment with for examples tunnels, straw and sticks. Let your rabbit explore outside of its cage but first ensure your home is rabbit proofed.
