Ask the vet - Rabbit

Why did my healthy rabbit suddenly die?

Vet at FirstVet answers:

Rabbits are prey animals and therefore excellent at masking any signs of disease. It is often very common that owners miss early symptoms of illness while the disease is still treatable.

Certain diseases can result in acute death. An example is a viral infection known as Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease.

It is however, more common, that a “sudden death” has been preceded by a longer period of disease that has gone unnoticed by the owner. If you want to find out why your rabbit has died you should get a necropsy performed.
