What are the benefits of neutering ferrets?
Vet at FirstVet answers:
There are benefits of neutering both male (hobs) and female (jills) ferrets. Males become easier to handle and you get rid of the strong smell they otherwise emit. Females can also give off a strong smell, which, in turn, is also reduced with spaying. More importantly, females only ovulate when they are mated. So if a jill does not mate it will continuously be in season. This results in an everlasting high oestrogen level that negatively affects the bone marrow. Severe, life threatening, anaemia follows. It is therefore essential to spay your jill!
